The annual Tommy’s Golf Day went of with a bang, becoming the most successful fundraising event in the history of Tommy’s! This year, we were raising money for two incredible charities, Given for You and Wellington Children’s Hospital.
Given for You is a local charity created by five Wellington mothers with the goal to support Wellington families living below the poverty line. In 2019 they launched an initiative at Arohata Prison to empower local wahine to succeed with dignity by providing them with sanitary items and toiletries. They also provide swimming bags for low decile schools, enabling children to engage with the ‘learn to swim’ programmes that might have been inaccessible due to the cost of the equipment. Tommy’s has been a regular supporter of Given for You for over three years, with the annual golf day being a massive fundraising event for them.
Wellington Children’s Hospital is in the process of developing a brand-new purpose-built children’s hospital – Te Wao Nui, that will service the Wellington region as well as the lower North Island. The money raised from the 2020 golf day will go towards outfitting and equipping the interior of the new Wellington Regional Children’s Hospital such as furniture and fittings, medical and education spaces, for the state-of-the-art medical equipment, a therapeutic gym, and all the high spec digital and creative aspects of the new hospital – which will be brought together with a touch of Weta magic!
At Tommy’s, we are proud to be here for our local community. The new Wellington Children’s Hospital will bring a brighter future for the thousands of sick babies, children and young people from across our region who are treated each year. Tommy’s, much like the Wellington Children’s Hospital is exclusive to the Wellington Region. This is an association that Tommy’s is very proud to have and one that heavily aligns with the firm’s values of being ‘here for our community’. It will be a fantastic new asset for the Wellington Region.
Giving back to our community is at the foundation of what Tommy’s stands for. We pride ourselves on getting involved in the community that we service and whole heartedly believe in the important work these charities do for our community. We are extremely privileged to have such a close working relationship with these organisations.
Last year we raised an outstanding $33,000. This year we hit a massive milestone and raised $40,000! What an awesome achievement. This wouldn’t have been possible with out the amazing team at Tommy’s, our volunteers, our generous attendees and our incredible sponsors!
