Here at Tommy’s Real Estate, we support the local communities who’ve supported us over the last twenty years. Our distinctive green colours have stood the test of time, now we seek to give further meaning to our ‘green’ branding. This starts with making a positive environmental impact.

It is estimated New Zealanders use around 1.6 billion single-use plastic bags every year. Each of these plastic bags takes at least 500 years to breakdown in a landfill. Unfortunately, these do not biodegrade, they breakdown into microplastics. These tiny bits of plastic pollute our soil and water, contaminating the products that we consume. By 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans.

It is estimated that a reusable bag will be used over 700 times. One single reusable bag could mitigate the use of over 22,000 plastic bags.

We support the transition to sustainable packaging. In 2018, Tommy’s gave away 35,000 heavy-duty, reusable, shopping bags over the course of six weeks, distributing them at local markets and supermarkets, major contributors to the plastic bag epidemic. This was an effort to help free Wellington from plastic shopping bags. You can regularly spot Wellingtonias carrying these around the city.

This is the first step of many in our ongoing green initiative.
