Now officially called Hutt City, although still known by its old name. Lower Hutt is handy for excellent schools (Chilton St James, St Oran's, St Bernard's and Eastern Hutt primary school are clustered together, plus the decile 9 Hutt Valley High School), good shopping at the Queensgate Mall (free parking) and surrounding streets, a highly-regarded hospital (with a world-renowned speciality in plastic surgery and the treatment of burns), and the wonderful New Dowse gallery. Huia Pool is a useful amenity, with its 'beach', teaching pool and spas.
