It’s not like that at Tommy’s though! Recent legislative changes and market pressures have proved that sales agents (and particularly those new to the industry) require ongoing training, monitoring and assistance and that’s the support that Tommy’s provides. No longer is real estate a retiring ground for people finishing out their working lives. It is a vibrant, demanding and highly competitive industry but one that offers above average rewards for those that succeed. The people who have been the most successful in our sales team are those who are team players, who embrace the Tommy’s culture; they have a genuine interest in property and in delivering top-shelf personal service. If you have these attributes and are contemplating a directional change in your career path, Tommy’s would like to talk to you. Previous real estate experience is not a prerequisite.
Contact the management of the Tommy's office in your area, and convince us to employ you. Our recruitment policy has been a major factor in the outstanding growth and success of our company since its inception in May 1999 and we are now seeking an injection of new and energetic agents to continue enhancing our image in the marketplace over the next decade and beyond. The people we are seeking will have a willingness to accept change and to take on board our philosophy of ethical business practices and of delivering professional and skilled services to our clients. Most of our successful sales agents in the past have been hand picked from personal approaches or by referrals, and this is the recruitment policy that we rely on.
Character and life skills matter most. Evidence of a previous successful business or sales background would be an advantage. There is no set pattern for what makes a “successful salesperson”; however personal skills, personality, appearance, motivation to succeed and being a self starter are all attributes that we look for. The support of a spouse or partner is also a distinct advantage in coping with erratic work hours from time to time.
Although it is not a prerequisite, we have always shown a preference for people who are new to real estate, who are free of industry perceptions and bad habits. We have found that they are more likely to benefit from being trained “the Tommy’s way”. Training the Tommy’s way in systems devised, perfected and proven by Tommy himself will be available to new recruits. Training is given in selling skills, negotiation techniques and marketing. Everybody receives coaching in the company culture of loyalty and team play, and everyone is expected to take ownership of issues, to be proactive and to operate professionally and ethically. New people starting at Tommy’s main office will receive daily assistance, supervision and tuition from Tommy himself and he is available to all new staff at all offices on request.
We strive to act in the best interests of our vendor clients and to maximize the financial return on every sale. Success in real estate comes from being prepared to work long and often irregular hours. All sales agents representing the Tommy’s team are expected to offer the highest level of service possible and to comply with the requirements and regulations of the Real Estate Agents Authority. A passion for helping people achieve their property goals is what it’s all about.
The industry as a whole has been through some tough economic times and salesperson numbers throughout New Zealand have decreased dramatically. With better times anticipated in the years ahead, looking forward, we see great opportunities for people who can meet our high standards. If we have your interest, please contact the Tommy’s management team at any one of our offices for an update on what opportunities are available.
